On the 25th of May 2014, the School of Foreign Languages (SFL) celebrated the fourth anniversary of the English Corner, a brand activity of the SFL. The celebration commenced at 3:30 p.m. at the gate of the new building, where the activities were successfully executed. The main aims of this event included: celebrating the achievements of the English Corner over a period of four years, expressing thanks for the efforts of all staff and the support of each brother-school for their contribution to the development and expansion of the English Corner, promoting the communication between the students, and showcasing the students’ youthful style. It is also a new starting point for the English Corner to head towards a higher goal.
The activity started formally after the host gave a brief description of the four years of tough development. The activities were specially designed for team missions. Each delegation consisted of seven members who were chosen by the colleges involved. The activity included six segments. The competitor could receive one pass after finishing each segment, and gathering six passes would mean fulfilling the task. The forms of team missions were so original that the competitors coming from different colleges showed great interest in the match. The sites of the activities were located at the South Playground, the Donation Pavilion, the Wisdom Garden, the Walnut Garden and the North Playground respectively, a little far from each other. After the participants arrived at the venue, they had to participate in the following activities: Pictography, Touching the Nose, Word Guessing, Pen-nipping Relay, Charades and other unique games. They all actively participated and as such gained a lot more knowledge of English from the games. At the same time, competing against other colleges had also enhanced their teamwork spirit and the sense of collective honor. After approximately two hours had passed, each college team returned to the starting point, and there they had the Awarding Ceremony during which a representative from each team went up to receive a prize and gave an acceptance speech. After this, the host expressed sincere gratitude to everyone for their support and invited the participants and the Student Council Members to cut the English Corner’s fourth anniversary cake together. Thus, the day’s activities ended in a joyful atmosphere.
This activity strengthened the internal cohesion and the external influences of the English Corner, promoted this brand greatly, enriched the students’ university life, enhanced the public recognition of this brand activity and thus improved everyone’s evaluation on it. May the English Corner fly high and create more glory with this new starting point!
