1、Introduction
As one of the early batch of Russian Departments in China, the Department of Russian in Shanxi University was granted to establish the program of Russian Language and Literature in 1949. The teaching staff are rich in teaching experience and have a good ability of scientific research. There are six full-time teachers and one foreign teacher employed every year.
The Department of Russian aims to train innovative talents with a solid knowledge of Russian language and culture, broad horizon and active thinking. Apart from teaching basic knowledge and skills, it also guides the students to be innovative, hardworking, rigorous and realistic. The pass rate of students from the Department of Russian has remained above the national average level in TRM-4 (Test for Russian Majors, Grade Four) and TRM-8 (Test for Russian Majors, Grade Eight). Additionally, its students once won prizes in National Contest of Russian Language and Culture and National Contest of Russian.

The Department of Russian places emphasis on promoting students' basic knowledge and skills of Russian and improving their communicative competence. Therefore, the graduates are qualified with their language proficiency in translation and interpretation, research, teaching and management and competent in a wide range of fields, such as education, foreign affairs, trade, cultural exchange, press and publication, tourism, etc.
For several decades, the Department of Russian has cultivated a large number of excellent students, whose performance earns wide recognition among the employing units. In addition, many undergraduates are admitted to the top universities in China, such as Beijing Foreign Studies University, Shanghai International Studies University, Beijing Normal University, Foreign Economics and Trade University, East China Normal University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Xiamen University, etc. for further study.
