Growing out of the Department of English and French, the Department of French was established in 2007 and owns the authority to confer master’s degree. There are seven full-time teachers, including one professor, one associate professor, three lecturers and two teaching assistants. Additionally, one or two foreign teachers are employed every year. Teachers from the Department of French are all rich in teaching experience and have been to France for further study or work. They have been making intensive study of linguistics, French literature, translation and interpretation, etc. and have published many theses, translations and academic works in recent years.
1、Introduction
The Department of French aims to train the students to be specialized in French and obtain a broad range of knowledge, thus enabling the undergraduates to be competent for careers that range from foreign affairs, trade, cultural exchange, press and publication, education, scientific research, tourism to other fields. Students are qualified not only with their language proficiency in translation and interpretation, research, teaching and management, but with their academic competence for further study in postgraduate programs.

With competitive advantages, the graduates have great career prospects. For instance, the graduates are competent to be interpreters or translators in government agencies and fields of foreign affairs, press and publication, economy, international trade, cultural exchange, education, tourism, foreign enterprises and so on. In addition, the pass rate for postgraduate exams has always been above 25% in recent years.
