Recently, the Commemorative Meeting of the 35th Anniversary of the Founding of China's Russian Teaching Research Society, jointly organized by the Russian Teaching Research Society of China and Peking University, was held in Minzhu Building of Peking University. About 170 workers who are engaged in Russian education from more than 120 colleges around the country and embassies in China on behalf of the Russian Federation attended this commemorative meeting.
A main theme of this meeting is to appraise and present "China's Russian Education Lifetime Achievement Award" and "China's Russian Education Outstanding Contribution Award". After being recommended by universities as well as serious discussion and selection by the presidium of the research society, 25 respectable teachers and scholars won the honorary awards of China's Russian Teaching Research Society. They are from Peking University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Shanghai International Studies University, Nanjing University, Shanxi University and other universities and have worked for China's Russian education for more than 50 years.
Professor Wu Changfu and Professor Zhang Wenyu, senior translators and retired teachers of our school, won "China's Russian Education Outstanding Contribution Award". They are outstanding representatives of predecessors and scholars in China's Russian teaching field, and valuable treasures of Chinese education, especially for the Russian major of Shanxi University. Their knowledge, accomplishment and morality are admirable and they are models in the educational circle.
Wu Changfu, born in 1932, is a retired professor of the Russian major in School of Foreign Languages of Shanxi University. He graduated from Beijing Foreign Languages School in 1956 and taught there as a teacher. In 1957 he was dispatched to Shanxi University for Russian teaching and retired in 1992. He once won Shanxi's first award for excellent achievements in social scientific research, the foreign language translation award and so on. In 1991, due to his participation in the compilation of the second version of The Complete Works of Lenin, he won the commendation from the Propaganda Department and Compiler Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. In 2006, he was awarded the title of "senior translator" by Translators Association of China. He has published more than 20 kinds of translations, including The Complete Works of Lenin (Volume 16), The Encyclopedia of World History, History of Africa, etc.
Zhang Wenyu, born in 1934, is a retired professor of the Russian major in School of Foreign Languages of Shanxi University. In 1957, he graduated from the graduate class in Beijing Foreign Languages School and was assigned to Shanxi University. He once won the social science research outstanding achievement award of Shanxi Province. In 2006, he was awarded the title of "senior translator" by Translators Association of China. He was member of the standing committee of the seventh and eighth Shanxi Province CPPCC (the Chinese People's Political and Consultative Conference) and the vice chairman of Shanxi Provincial Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang. He has published more than 20 kinds of translations, such as How the Steel was Tempered, The Captain's Daughter, The Brothers Karamazov, etc.
