On November 5, 2016, the result of “the 28th Han Suyin Youth Translation Prize Competition” was announced. The competition was hosted by Translators Association of China and supported by editorial department of Chinese Translators Journal and School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Several students of our school achieved historically best results.
Zhang Shijie, from the undergraduate translation major of 2014, surpassed many competitors from elite schools and took the first place of the first prize (there are only two places for the first prize). Besides, there were also four students gaining the excellence prize. They were Hou Yaya from MTI of 2015, Song Jiahui and Wang Wenqin from the undergraduate English major of 2013 and Xue Yingqi from the undergraduate translation major of 2014.
School of Foreign Languages (SFL) of Shanxi University began to recruit postgraduates of translation major in 2011 and undergraduates of translation major in 2013. With years of excellent tradition of translation practice, high-quality teaching staff and advanced teaching facilities, SFL has developed a group of practical and professional talents who can adapt to the economic globalization and meet the economic, cultural and social construction needs of our country. The good results achieved in this competition have greatly improved the nationwide awareness of our school in the training of translation personnel.
Notes: Hosted annually by Translators Association of China since 1988, “Han Suyin Youth Translation Prize Competition” is a translation competition with the longest organizing time, the largest scale, the highest standard and the widest influence of its kind. It has been recognized as a top event in the translation field of China.
