In order to promote the exchange and cooperation of linguistic fields at home and abroad, and deepen the understanding of the latest progress and development in foreign linguistic studies, especially in pragmatics and linguistic philosophy, “International Forum on Pragmatics and Linguistic Philosophy” was held in School of Foreign Languages (SFL), Shanxi University from August 20th to 22nd, 2016. Altogether eight well-known international scholars including Sanford Goldberg from Northwestern University, Mitch Green from University of Connecticut, Claire Horisk from University of Missouri, Mandy Simons from Carnegie Mellon University, Judith Tonhauser from Ohio State University, Elizabeth Allyn Smith from University of Quebec, Robert J. Stainton from University of Western Ontario and Isadora Stojanovic from the Jean Nicod Institute were invited to make as principal speakers 14 academic reports on some frontier problems in pragmatics and linguistic philosophy. The forum attracted experts and scholars as well as postgraduates and doctoral students from nearly 40 domestic universities to participate in.
The forum is a third important academic exchange activity held by SFL after its hosting the 1st and 2nd National Discourse Analysis Workshop in 2012 and 2015, whose principal speakers were also all top international scholars. The lofty academic horizon, elaborated arrangements, as well as heated and professional communication atmosphere, won high praise from scholars at home and abroad. Besides, this activity has also helped to further strengthen the influence of the pragmatics studies of SFL in China and in the world.
