At 2:30 pm on March 25th, the opening ceremony of the First Foreign Language Culture Festival of SFL was held in Boya Auditorium.
Accompanied by dynamic music and springy dance steps, began the youth-brimming opening dance, which also marked the beginning of the 1st Foreign Language Culture Festival. The appearance of the hosts produced a sensation among the audience. Acting as the representatives of six languages, namely Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese and Russian respectively, they showed the audience the unique charm of each language and the belief “extolling youth with languages”. Then the hosts introduced the heads of SFL attending the event, including Liu Chunyuan, Secretary of the CPC Committee of SFL, Wu Junjie, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee of SFL, Ji Mofang, Deputy Dean of SFL, and Yan Yujie, Secretary of the Youth League Committee of SFL. Apart from this, the host group also expressed their sincere thanks to the teachers and students for their support and participation.
Then Mr. Wu Junjie delivered an opening speech, in which he encouraged all students to broaden their horizons and improve their capabilities so as to show the teaching achievements and unique charm of SFL. He also hoped that more students can take part in the activities and wished the festival a complete success.
In the ceremony, wonderful performances were brought to the audience. The dubbing show, which was excerpted from the movie The Little Mermaid 2, Return to the Sea, was performed by three students from SFL. The show was so vivid and interesting that it was praised by students to be “not discordant with the original at all”. The poem, A Letter to Mom, recited by Anastasiia Ivanova, a Ukrainian girl, was even more impressive and moving. Far away from homeland, the international student from School of International Education and Exchange expressed between the touching lines her homesickness which “flows like a creek to the boundless horizon”. Different as the languages were, the emotion was equally sincere. After the poem, Zong Yingxuan, a German major, sang a song If I Were a Boy, which was quite graceful for the familiar melody and brand-new performance.
In the following Question & Answer round, students from different schools raised their hands to answer questions eagerly and the interaction between the host and the audience was very harmonious and entertaining. After that was held the awarding ceremony for the logo design winners, in which the host invited all the finalists to step on the stage and receive their prizes. Ren Hua, the final winner, explained the meaning of the logo he designed for the festival. At last, Jin Yuanyuan and Jin Tuantuan, the two cartoon image ambassadors of Youth League members in Shanxi, awarded the prizes to the finalists and took a group photo with them. Then, Zeng Jun, Song Junrong and Guo Zijun from the Guitar Club brought the audience a feast of music with their original song The Realm of Mind. After that, Li Si’en, a foreign student and one of the winners of the Voice of Shanxi University, showed up in a unique way. He sang a series of popular songs like Poker Face, I Believe, Fantastic Baby and Once and For All, which boosted the enthusiasm of the audience and brought the opening ceremony to the climax.
After the songs, the dynamic dance Ring Linga was performed by Au Street Dance Club. Then the announcers from the radio station of Shanxi University also expressed their wishes for the festival by reciting a poem called Dreams, on the Road. After that, the guitar solo Wind Song played by Chen Meihan from the Guitar Club sounded sweet and lovely; the dulcimer solo Spring Comes to the Clear River played by Wu Jiangrong from the Academy of Music was beautiful and ethereal, with classical notes lingering in the auditorium; the song The Road to Ordinariness and the adaptation of See You Again sung by Niu Zhengzhu from the Association of Music Lovers deeply touched audiences’ hearts with his deep and charming voice.
Besides, A-Ni from School of International Education and Exchange recited Beautiful Armenia, My Love and Mount Ararat, unfolding the exotic feeling of Armenia before the audience’s eyes. She also shared her language-learning experience with the audience.
The opening ceremony of the festival ended with the song Tomorrow Will Be Better. In the following two months, various activities such as the dubbing contest of foreign languages, singing competition of foreign songs, cosplay contest, CET4 and CET6 training, etc. will be organized in order to go on enriching students’ cultural life and show the unique charm of foreign languages. Let's look forward to the ensuing activities of the festival.
