Form October 16th to October 18th, 2015, more than 500 people from 114 colleges and universities across the country, including college students and teachers as well as experts and scholars studying Russian, gathered together in Beijing Foreign Studies University to take part in 2015 National Russian Contest for Colleges and Universities (NRCCU). During the contest, 306 competitors competed for the different awards of the contest. Ma Ruye and Wang Wei, two Russian majors respectively from Class 2012 and Class 2014 of the School of Foreign Languages (SFL) of Shanxi University (SXU), took part in the senior group and the junior group respectively. In this contest, Ma Ruye entered the finals ranking 4th and finally got the third prize of the senior group, thus obtaining the opportunity to study for a master’s degree in Russia at public expense from the Ministry of Education and China Scholarship Council. Wang Wei got the excellence award of the junior group.
NRCCU, sponsored by the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, Ministry of Education, is undertaken by Beijing Foreign Studies University this year. Having been successfully held for nine times since 2006, the contest is one of the institutionalized programs of the Sino-Russian exchange and cooperation in the humanities and education fields. More than 300 excellent students of Russian majors have been selected to go to Russia for further studies under the oversea programs of the China Scholarship Council. The contest, so to speak, has played an important role in promoting the selection of talents, the exchanges among Russian majors in domestic universities, the development of Russian teaching and scientific researches and the Sino-Russian cooperation in the humanity field. Russian majors of SXU participated in all the previous contests and gained excellent prizes.
In addition, during the contest, the 2nd National Award for Excellent Textbooks and Academic Papers on Russian Teaching in Colleges and Universities was organized by the Advisory Sub-Committee of Russian Major Teaching of Advisory Committee of Foreign Language Teaching in Vocational Education, Ministry of Education. The textbook entitled Motion Verbs of Modern Russian by Wang Liming, associate professor and teacher of Russian from SXU, was awarded the 3rd prize for excellent textbooks.
