Punctually at 8:00 am on October 21 began 2015 Autumn Games at the university’s Hongyou Stadium. Enjoying cool breeze and clear skies, the whole school put their hearts and minds into the competition.
The leaders of Shanxi University delivered the opening speech, declaring the beginning of the Games. The formation of each school marched in sturdy strides in succession. The students of the School of Foreign Languages (SFL) marched by the rostrum vigorously, saluting the leaders and the sports. Then the national flag was raised with the accompaniment of the anthem, and teachers and students present were all filled with deep esteem. After the flag-raising ceremony began various performances of the opening ceremony which were applauded by the audience constantly.
In the spirit of “friendship comes before competition”, the Autumn Games was held, showing not only the powerful physique but also the positive attitude of teachers and students from SFL. At 9:00 am , the Autumn Track and Field Sports Meet 2015 began. The opening day’s competition events the SFL atheletes would take part in included male and female 100m and 400m dash, male shot and 1,500m race, female solid sphere, male and female 400m relay race. It is worth mentioning that, responding to the calling of the school, teachers actively participated in the sports event. Ms. Cui Jia took part in the event of female 100m dash and took the crown, which showed the abilities of the SFL’s faculties.
The athletes of SFL fought hard and won the first place in the male 400m relay race, which showed the quality of hardworking and perseverence. In the spirit of overcoming and overtaking themselves, they got good scores and showed great mental state. All the students at the spectator’s stand were extremely enthusiastic to cheer for the athletes and stimulated them to win honor for the school. Thanks should also be given to the staff who had been serving the athletes. Their careful work was indispensable to the success of the Autumn Games.
On the first day of the games, we not only gained friendship and sportsmanship, but also experienced the power of uniting. Aimed at encouraging college students to exercise and improve fitness, the games provide a platform for sports lovers to improve themselves. We sincerely hope all the students will gain a better understanding of the ideal, “MAKE EXERCISE A HABIT, MAKE LIFE MORE EXCITING”. We wish the athletes from our school another success in tomorrow’s races.
