On the afternoon of April 2nd 2015, at the kind invitation of Mr. Song Deqiang of SFL, Huang Yuxiong, vice-general manager of China International Travel Service (Shanxi) Company Limited, gave the students enrolled in 2012 a lecture on career planning in Room 103 in the Science Building. Mr. Huang shared his over 40 years of experience in working and studying Japanese. With his rich life experiences, he also gave his sincere guidance to those who are uncertain as to whether or not they should take the entrance examinations for postgraduate students or seek a job.
Mr. Huang studied at SFL from 1979 to 1983, majoring in Japanese. After graduation, he first worked as a translator, but later moved up to work in the tourist industry, focusing on the business of receiving and managing Japanese tourists. However, he never gave up doing translation and interpreting, for he believed that the job he does is not only what he likes but is also what suits him best. After the introduction of his working experiences, Mr. Huang moved on to analyze the serious employment situation concerning Japanese and many other foreign languages and introduce the demand of tourist industry for foreign language personnel. At the same time, Mr. Huang also pointed outthe shortcomings of job-seeking graduates. In his opinion, there exists a certain gap between the expectations of students and therequirements of employers. Finally, Mr Huangurged the students to take a down-to-earth attitudeand encourage them to be bold enough to try new things. He hoped that students can see their strengths and be realistic at the same time.
All the students were very grateful that Mr. Huang was able to take time out of his very busy schedule to share his experience and interact with them. Meanwhile, the leaders of SFL also expressed their sincere wish that all the students will learn something essential from Mr. Huang’s lecture and become elites of the society as well as the pride of SFL with clear goals and proper self-orientation in the coming future.
