Foreign Songs Contest Held Successfully

At 7 pm on May 12th, 2017,the Foreign Songs Contest, held by School of Foreign Languages (SFL), was started atMeeting Room 301 in the new teaching building.The contest aims to provide a platform for students to show themselves and learn foreign languages, thus inspiringtheir more love for foreign languages.It also aims toenrich campus cultural life, create an active and free atmosphere and strengthen the construction of campus culture.

The judges of this contest areGuo Zijun, head of Shanxi University Art Troupe, Niu Zhengzhu, 2014 grade studentof the Academy of Music majoring in vocal arts, Zong Yingxuan, 2014 grade student of German Department of SFL and Wang Tian, vice secretary of SFL Youth League Committee and Student Union of Shanxi University.

Before the contest, Yang Tianxu and Lou Yue, who camefrom SFL, sang a song “A Thousand Years”, whichlit the atmosphere instantly.

Then the contest officially kicked off. Groups of players showed up on stage and presented wonderful performances. The whole contest was multitudinous, substantial and wonderful.

Every participant tried to perform different styles of foreign songs with all efforts. Their distinctive singing styles and purepronunciation provided an auditory feast for the live audience.

Pure, refined, warm and ethereal songs named “Close To You” and “Only Hope” brought people inside peace and endless aftertastes. Classic hits “Take Me To Your Heart” and “You Raise Me Up”with moving tunes and subtle sentiment of missing rendered the atmosphere sentimental and warm, deeply touching every live audience.

A fresh and elegant Korean song called “Hello, Goodbye”made people feel refreshed and achieved consistent high praise from both judges and audiences. “Bye Bye Bye”with strong rhythm fully presented the youth and vigor of modern university students and won thunderous applause. Besides, a distinctive unaccompanied“Country Road”gave a big surprise to the live audience.Different songsone after another,either exquisite or ebullient, pushed the contest to a climaxover again and again.

When the contest was over, each judge made a brief comment. Guo Zijun, head of Shanxi University Art Troupe, said: “Participants should treat the contest seriously and be well-prepared to sing without looking at lyrics. Moreover, they should pay attention to the rhythm and follow the beat while singing.”

Niu Zhengzhu, 2014 grade student of the Academy of Music majoring in vocal arts, suggested that contestants should choose songs whichbest suit their own voices. Wang Tian, vice secretary of SFLStudent Union and Youth League Committee of Shanxi University, expressed gratitude to all the audiences for their arrival, and gave publicity to the forthcoming dubbing contest. Zong Yingxuanfrom the German Department of SFL of Shanxi University emphasized the stage manners of the contestants along their singing. Singers should be confident to attract the attention of the audience and master the stage.

Finally, with the Cantonese song “Shall We Talk” sung by Niu Zhengzhu, the Foreign Songs Contest was successfully concluded.
