我院今日举行地震、火灾应急疏散演练
SFL Holds Earthquake and Fire Drill

　On Sept. 2, to strengthen the teachers’ and students’ safety awareness and emergency response, a drill for earthquake and fire emergency was held simultaneously in the two teaching buildings of the School of Foreign Languages (SFL).
   Comprehensive plans were made to ensure that the activity would be successfully and effectively carried out. In each staircase there was a teacher guiding to evacuate. The drill began at 9:50 a.m. The first whistle suggested the occurrence of an earthquake. Upon hearing it, all the participants, both teachers and students, made a quick response. They hid under the desks and protected their heads with backpacks or books. And the second whistle was a fire alarm. All the participants organized in two queues and then retreated along the wall to the nearest exits, orderly and effectively. Several minutes later, all the participants withdrew successfully under the guidance. Then they gathered in lines spontaneously in front of the Walnut Garden behind the old building and at the gate of the new building. Practical and well-organized, the drill met the expectancy and laid a solid foundation for the campus to become a more peaceful place.
    After the drill of emergency evacuation, Wu Junjie, deputy secretary of SFL Party Committee, made a summary and evaluation of the activity. Secretary Wu pointed out that the drill of emergency evacuation concerned the life safety of all faculty and students, so we should pay high attention to it. Students should participate in this activity actively with the attitude of respecting life. They can learn the skills of self-help and self-care in the drill so that they can protect themselves and help others to reduce the loss in case the similar incident happens in the future. Secretary Wu stressed that students should correct their attitude and take the drill seriously. He also corrected some mistakes made by students during the drill and put forward higher requirements.
   Safety refers to not only awareness but also responsibility. Safety education is always the priority among priorities in schooling. If a disaster happens in the teaching building where teachers and students gather, evacuation would be quite difficult, so it becomes particularly important to raise students’ fire awareness and self-salvation consciousness. This drill shows that the SFL leaders pay high attention to the teachers and students’ life. Aiming to improve teachers and students’ security consciousness and self-saving awareness, it is expected to help them evacuate safely and orderly from accidents and prevent from the occurrence of stampede accidents and other secondary damages. Although this disaster prevention and evacuation drill lasted for only a few minutes, it is of great significance in the sense that students comprehensively master the knowledge of disaster prevention, gain an insight of the skill and procedure of evacuating safely and raise the fire awareness and self-salving consciousness.
